Taj Palace – Self-Certified Halal Restaurant

South Korea is not a Muslim country. It is very difficult for Muslim to live here because of the insufficiency of Halal food. However, Statistic tells that the number of Muslim visitor is keep increasing from 2016. Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) tries to attract more Muslim visitors by promoting more Halal Restaurant in the country.

KTO classified the Muslim Friendly Restaurant into four categories, as follows:

By 2018, there are 146 restaurants listed officially by Korea Tourism Organization (KTO). I had a chance to visit one of the restaurants. Taj Palace is India restaurant which is located at Itaewon. The restaurant provides ala-carte menu and buffet menu.

Halal Certified

All the menu here is Halal. As we know, the main dishes for India cuisine are Tandoori Chicken, Briyani, and Curry.

Halal Menu

If we talk about India cuisine, of course it will be curry, nan bread, briyani and tandori chicken!! I’ve tried India cuisine at several place. My fave is actually the one near Seoul National University. I love the tandori chicken. After eat at Taj Palace, the one near SNU is still the winner. But I must admit that the nan bread and curry was delicious~ The briyani is actually not very special. The smell of it spices was too strong. Overall, I like the restaurant and the food. Next time I should try buffet menu haha

Prices:

  • Buffet – KRW 18.500
  • Tandoori Chicken (Half) – KRW 11.000
  • Butter Chicken Curry – KRW 14.500
  • Vegetable Biryani – KRW 12.000
  • Assorted Nan Bread – KRW 7.000
  • Lassi – KRW 3.500

For buffet, If I’m not mistaken, is only available on Friday to Sunday. The price is either 18.500 or 19.000 won. I don’t remember it very clear. I prefer ala carte menu because I only want to eat certain menu, plus, ala carte has richer flavour than buffet. Yeah, because buffet menu is cooked in big portion, so probably the taste has less flavour. Another reason is, in buffet you take your own food and put it on your plate. Since I am not good at decorating the plate, I don’t eat buffet haha I want to take a nice picture of it.

Restaurant Ambience

Compare to other India restaurant, this resto has bright ambience. The one I’ve ever visited, usually has dim light. It was clean, and they have authentic decoration to represent the country. I heard that this resto is one of tourist object attraction in Itaewon haha Well, in Itaewon there are a lot of similar restaurant. If you don’t know where to eat, you can go here instead 🙂
