Namisum Kkokko Chuncheon Dakgalbi – Muslim Friendly Restaurant

South Korea is not a Muslim country. It is very difficult for Muslim to live here because of the insufficiency of Halal food available. However, Statistic tells that the number of Muslim visitor is increasing from 2016. Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) tries to attract more Muslim visitors by building more Halal Restaurant in the country.

KTO classified the Muslim Friendly Restaurant into four categories, as follows:

Among 135 restaurant that is listed by KTO, I had a chance to visit one of them. I will introduce the restaurant in this post. This time I will introduce one restaurant near one of the most famous tourist attraction in South Korea, Nami Island.

The restaurant named Namisum Kkokko Chuncheon Dakgalbi (남이섬 꼬꼬 춘천 닭갈비). Noted that this restaurant has a lot of franchises spread in the country, however, I only got the information that Namisum franchise is the only who got Muslim Friendly certified by KTO. The location is very strategic for tourist. The location is exactly in the front of Nami Island Bus Stop. For address detail and map, see below.

Halal Certified Chicken

For Muslim, eating authentic Korean Food is not easy. Most delicious foods are containing meat, non-halal meat. But now we can easily try Halal Dakgalbi or Stir-fried Chicken while traveling to Gapyeong area. Kkokko Dakgalbi Restaurant use Halal Certified Chicken imported from Brazil.

Halal Menu

You can order any chicken menu in this restaurant. I am not sure about the beef, but I think the beef is not halal meat. The other menu that doesn’t contain meat is okay to order as well. Since this is my first time eating dakgalbi, I ordered the original flavour stir-friend chicken. They will ask you about the spicy level, so you can adjust the level as you want. I ordered the middle level. Noted that stir-fried chicken can only be ordered for 2 servings at minimum. So, even if you come alone, and really want to try this menu, be ready to eat 2 servings at once 😀

The restaurant will help you cook the chicken. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to do it 😀 It takes several minutes to cook it. Be patient~

Since I ordered the middle level, it was not spicy enough. It was quiet sweet though. If you prefer more taste, I suggest you to order the spicy one or the charcoal chicken one. The owner explained it very friendly, that the original taste is targeted for foreigners. Because some foreigners don’t like spicy flavour. The chicken was juicy. However, I feel that there were too many fat and chicken skin attached to the meat, so I was busy removing it 😀

If you are Korean food lover and you are Muslim, you should try this when you visiting Gapyeong or Nami Island!

Restaurant Ambience

The restaurant is operating until 8PM in holiday season, but will close earlier in the normal day, probably around 6PM. The restaurant is 2-stories floor building. Go directly to the 2nd floor for cleaner and more comfortable atmosphere. Moreover, if you want to try both stir-fried chicken menu, it is only available on the 2nd floor.

Public Transport:

Take Seoul Subway and get off at Gapyeong Station (Gyeongchun Line). Transfer to bus no. 33-5 or Gapyeong city tour bus and get off at the Nami Island bus station.
